I never thought I would find myself missing being in a school environment. Learning new things everyday and having like minded individuals to discuss the good and the boring with. These feelings were more inflamed when I accompanied my sister to a university open day, an arts school to be specific. And while she was not sold on that Uni as her first choice, I was sure as shit was. So while I considered if I was missing classrooms, wanting to go to University or was just needed a new hyperfixation to upend my life with, I eventually realised what the key was: I missed learning.

When I say learning, I mean researching and developing my understanding of a genuine interest. Mine so happens to be fashion that is on the darker side of the spectrum. Which is how I stumbled upon SilkyMochi. I really struggled to find alternative creators that speak about dark clothing from a well-versed perspective. Mylessa often speaks in her videos of her time in high education majoring in fashion design through the lens of meticulous detail.

As an admirer of alternative fashion, I set myself the challenge of studying my Kitchener Essence alongside my potential Dark Muse. In this post I’m going to discuss my fascinating discoveries.

Kitchener Essence

I used the OurFashionGuide.com website guides and quizzes to establish my three essences. These were: Dominant: Ingenue, Secondary: Romantic, Accent: Ethereal.

Focusing first on my dominant essence, I have quite youthful, soft facial features and I often appear younger than I am. Based on this I decided to evaluate what ‘youthful’ means to me, that being the memories I have as a child playing dress up. So I added some floaty styles to my wardrobe; flute sleeves, bell bottoms and fun designs/patterns. Pieces that make me feel like I could walk out of a fantasy novel. A mythical character I’ve been drawing influence from is the Lady of the Lake of King Arthur. A mystifying, yet sultry enchantress. With my Romantic and Ethereal essences I try to image characters with delicate features and bewitching energy.

How Does This Link to the Dark Muses?

So with this in mind, I looked at all the dark muses and picked my favourite; Siren.

Mylessa describes Siren as the ‘minimalist’ yet chic muse. I found myself resonating with Siren more so than the others because I wanted to look alluring while keeping in tone with my softer features. There is something about looking seductive yet miasmic that appeals to me. Especially for date night and special occasions where I want to feel my best.

As you can see with my makeup in this picture, I kept my base neutral and while drawing the focus to my sharp, catlike eyeliner. My hair (which I couldn't be arsed to wash or style haha) I slicked back to give that 'clean goth' look.

As someone who likes to keep their routine pretty simple I love that my makeup routine can remain effortless with a few small tweaks. Which, as you can see, is why I decided to experiment with waterline eyeliner. I had NO IDEA this would bring the whole look together while only changing such a small detail! Siren style really is all about less is more.

To conclude, I can't wait to experiment more! Maybe I should try the fairy muse next? :)
